Gina's Natural Electrolyte Lemonade
From The Kitchen
The homemade answer to a sports drink, and so much lovelier — fresh lemon, a touch of raw honey, and a pinch of sea salt for natural electrolytes. Keep a pitcher in the refrigerator all summer long.
Ingredients
- 6 cups cold filtered water
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 1 tablespoon raw honey (or more to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1–2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger (optional)
- Ice
- Lemon slices and fresh mint, for serving
Method
- In a large pitcher, whisk together the lemon juice, honey and sea salt until the honey dissolves.
- Add the water and stir well.
- If using ginger, stir it in — or let it steep for 10 minutes, then strain if you prefer.
- Serve over ice with fresh lemon slices and mint.
Storage: Keeps 2 to 3 days refrigerated. Give it a stir before pouring.
Make it your own
- Orange Citrus — replace one lemon with one orange
- Lime Refresher — use 1 lemon and 2 limes
- Cucumber Mint — add a few cucumber slices and fresh mint
- Berry Lemon — muddle a handful of fresh raspberries or strawberries into the pitcher before serving
Serve it with
- After a workout, a walk, or the garden
- On a hot summer afternoon
- At a summer lunch or gathering
- Anytime plain water feels boring
Gina's tip
This is a refreshing way to replenish fluids after exercise, gardening, or a hot summer day. The combination of water, lemon, a touch of honey, and sea salt provides a simple source of hydration without artificial colors or excessive sugar.
Hydration doesn't need a neon bottle or a long ingredient list. A pitcher of this in the fridge is a small, good habit that makes taking care of yourself the easy choice all summer.
I hope this recipe finds a place in your kitchen as it has in mine. Enjoy!
