Why are greens so important for my health?
No food group complements our need for nutrients quite like leafy greens — they deliver more nutrition per calorie than anything else on your plate.
Why are greens so important for your health, you ask? I’ll tell ya. For starters, no other food group complements our basic need for nutrients as perfectly as green veggies. But wait — there’s more.
Their attributes practically speak for themselves. Green vegetables are packed with generous amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. They provide more nutrition per calorie than any other food, and they are a significant source of vitamins A, B, C, E, and K (not to mention their richness in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron).
Because they are packed with fiber, they keep you satisfied longer — reducing hunger and poor food choices. Beyond helping with weight control, that fiber plays an active role in grabbing toxins from your body before they are absorbed. And their phytonutrients boost the immune system while protecting your body against cellular damage.
But don’t run to the market just yet — I have a few more points to make (no surprise there, huh?).
Green vegetables actively help regulate the immune system cells that are critical for a healthy digestive system. And many greens, like broccoli and spinach, are called superfoods for their rich antioxidant content. As you know, antioxidants help protect our bodies from free radicals, which can damage vital organs.
Plus, they are delicious and can be enjoyed in endless ways.
So embrace your greens, and treat yourself, with three solid servings each day. Enjoy them as a loaded salad, a sauteed treat, or in a juice or smoothie. My book, Eat Clean, Live Free, on Amazon is full of fun and informative tips for eating well.
So give it up for the green superheroes among us. And now, feel free to run to the market!
When the mind needs somewhere to land
Everything in this wing points, in the end, to the same place — the breath, and the nervous system beneath it. It is why I built SOVA: a quiet companion for the moments in between.
- Today — a daily practice that aligns you before the day pulls you a dozen directions.
- Companion — a place to process any feeling, even the happy ones.
- Pages — a soft place to set your thoughts down and out of your head.
- The House — rooms of calm to step into, whenever you need one.
